Chiropractic History
Did you know Chiropractic has the education and technology to treat many problems, not just back and neck pain?
The word chiropractic is derived from the Greek language and means “To Perform with the Hands." Adjustment of the spine has been practiced throughout history, with some of the first known adjustments being recorded in Ancient China. The form of spinal adjustments used in Ancient Chinese Medicine treated patients with very diverse conditions including digestive troubles, sciatica, menstrual trouble, migraine headaches, epilepsy, heart problems, back pain, and many other conditions. Chiropractic has been used in North America for over one hundred years, beginning about the same time as modern “Western Medicine." Chiropractic physicians perform treatments by working with the muscles, ligaments, bones and nerves of the spinal column and spinal cord.Chiropractic physicians spend years receiving highly specialized training in order to locate where restricted or malpositioned spinal vertebrae are impinging the nerves that travel down the spinal cord and out through the spinal column to the muscles, organs, and glands of the body. After locating the vertebrae impinging the nerves (spinal segmental dysfunction), the doctor of chiropractic uses various highly specialized techniques to correct the misplaced or restricted vertebrae and thus releasing pressure on the nerves and restoring the joint to its optimal position and range of motion through specific spinal adjustments.
Once vertebral nerve impingement has been relieved and stabilized through a series of treatments, the chiropractic physician can help prevent similar problems by identifying stress and strain that your body is exposed to everyday, and helping you implement lifestyle changes to minimize the negative impact on your health.

I know there is so much controversy between chiropractic and medical care, but if it were not for chiropractic I would still be in pain. A car accident left me with constant lower back pain. I tried everything from painkillers to preparing to have surgery. I heard stories from my friends who had surgery and to this day wish they never had it. So I decided to go to a chiropractor before the surgery and I am so thankful that I did. My back pains are gone and I am living my life to the fullest and pain free.
